Moving Meditations

If you’re wondering how movement and meditation go together, come join us! Here’s what we do:

  1. Breathe! The most subtle of all movements, “breathing in and breathing out” has a tremendous impact on the state of our mind and the ability to enter a meditative state.
  2. Focus our thoughts with repetitive movements and rhythms: Often a story, Bible passage or spiritual reading helps us concentrate on a purpose as we listen to soft rhythms and participate in relaxing yoga and dance poses or movements.
  3. Explore ways to use our bodies to express and experience spirituality: Working with each other and individually enables us to remember that spirituality is about connectedness with others as much as it is an individual experience from within.

WHERE AND WHEN?
Moving Meditations normally meets every other Monday night from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary. For a current rehearsal schedule see the News and Events section.

WHO LEADS IT?
Rev. Katharine Harts and Pradnya Patet lead this group alternately.

FROM PRADNYA
My experience as an Indian Classical dancer emphasized performance rather than self expression. Training was geared to perfection. SCUCC offered me a way to find what I had been searching for: “a way to express my faith and spirituality through dance.” Moving Meditations is an opportunity for me to share my talent with others.

I leave church on Monday nights feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of the week because it is NOT a dance class. It is a time to connect with others, with my inner self, and with the supreme dancer who created this dance that goes on forever!

WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY!

Joyce Horky
The old saying “action speaks louder than words” could easily be applied to the Moving Meditation group. This experience adds a new dimension to prayer, meditation and self-awareness. I highly recommend it!

Tara Bailey
Moving meditations is a great opportunity for tending to my physical body spiritually. Until Moving Meditations, my spiritual journey was primarily focused on my mind and my heart. When I began attending Moving Meditations I discovered the Holy Spirit physically permeates me from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. My mind and my heart and my body are all now working together to further my spiritual growth and feed my soul. I encourage everyone who hungers and thirsts for more spiritual awareness to try Moving Meditations!

AT WORSHIP…
Occasionally at worship the Moving Meditations group offers a dance piece. This depends on the group and how the spirit leads us to share our experience with the congregation.

If you would like more information about this group, please contact Pradnya Patet at or (480) 946-2900.

We would love for you to join us!
